The 5 Major Smash Events for the Rest of 2017

2017 is still kicking with a host of great tournaments set for August and beyond. Championships, sponsored tournaments, and crazy prize pools are up for grabs for the rest of the year.

Here's a list of the top tournaments to look forward to this Fall and Winter:

5. Super Smash Con

Super Smash Con is happening this weekend, so it is cutting it close to making this list, but the event is far too large not to mention.

With over a thousand entrants in both Melee and Smash 4, and the promise of numerous side events and a convention-like atmosphere for three whole days, Super Smash Con is another great tournament to check out.

4. The Big House 7

The Big House has prestige in the Melee community for hosting some of the best crew battles hosted by one of the best TOs in the business, Robin "juggleguy" Harn. The tournament is the largest series in the Midwest and will attract top players for both its Smash 4 and Melee bracket.

3. 2GGC: SCR Saga

One of the last tournaments of the 2GG Circuit, this tournament will center around several themes.

SCR stands for SoCal Regionals, another tournament that features Smash 4 among other fighting games, and will take place in Santa Ana, California. True to 2GG form, this saga will center around Ryu as a tie-in to Smash 4's place among other fighting game titans.

2. GameTyrant Expo 2017

Money, money, money.

GameTyrant Expo 2017 makes it on the list for the sheer amount of hype surrounding its prize pool and venue. The venue will be a traditional sports stadium, the home court of the Utah Jazz. The prize pool? $30,000 in Melee, and $30,000 in Smash 4

That certainly buys its spot on one of the most anticipated Smash tournaments of the year.

1. 2GG Championship/Red Bull Gods and Gatekeepers

These events round out the rest of the year in their respective games, and so they share a spot; the 2GG Championship will mark the end of the circuit and the top players with the most points will compete in December.

Red Bull's Gods and Gatekeepers is a Melee-only tournament, taking the top talent of Melee and pitting them in crew battles against each other. Both tournaments definitely make the headlines as the most anticipated remaining tournaments of 2017.
