VGBC has just announced a new Smash 4 invitational tournament, Smash 4 Boot Camp, that will use the Smash Summit method to select invited players. Smash 4 invitationals are few and far between, and in the hands of VGBC, this may be a landmark tournament for invitationals in the future.

The tournament has a prize pool of $10,000, a fine addition to any top Smasher's collection. However, this will be well-earned, as every invitation to the tournament will go to a top player in some regard.

The sixteen invitations will be handled with the same method as Smash Summit:

  • Top 8 will receive automatic invitations
  • Two "Wild Card" spots will go to the top performing, non-invited player at GameTyrant Expo and The Big House 7
  • The final six players will be voted in by the fans

The Top 8 players on the PGR have already received their invitations to Smash 4 Boot Camp, meaning that these players are expected to attend:

  • Gonzalo "Zero" Barrios
  • Nairoby "Nairo" Quezada
  • Saleem "Salem" Young
  • Leonardo "MKLeo" Lopez Perez
  • Gavin "Tweek" Dempsey
  • Samuel "Dabuz" Buzby
  • Larry "Larry Lurr" Holland
  • James "VoiD" Makekau-Tyson

The tournament has also confirmed that they will host four of the best commentators in the business: Terrance "TKBreezy" Kershaw, Phil "EE" Visu, Zak "Coney" Z, and D'Ron "D1" Maigrette.

The tournament will take place on December 7-10 at The Downtown Grand in Las Vegas, with multiple rooms and suites booked for the duration of the tournament; the tournament will even have an entire floor dedicated to the event.

With the venue, prize pool, and player list combined, this will be one of the swankiest tournaments of the year.
