Legendary grime star P Money is hosting a unique gaming event on his Twitch channel this October 11 from 7:30pm BST. The rapper is taking on Adam Deacon and Jazzie Zonzolo, the stars of the upcoming movie Sumotherhood, in the recently released EA Sports FC 24. Sumotherhood is from the same director as the 2011 cult classic Anuvahood.

Adam Deacon stars in and directs this movie, and also starred in the drama film series Kidulthood. P Money has a track on the official Sumotherhood soundtrack and has recently entered the world of Twitch streaming, making this event a natural fit to help promote the movie which releases on October 13. The event is being brought to viewers by Tundra Esports and Paramount Pictures, and GLHF was able to speak with P Money ahead of the event to get his view on the collision of the gaming and rap worlds.

“Since I first started streaming, the whole plan was to merge gaming and music together, because they go hand in hand. But I feel like there’s not enough done, there aren’t enough events.”

When you imagine what grime rappers do backstage at a show, you probably wouldn’t think that playing PS5 games to be top of the list, but that’s the reality. “Everybody plays games, everyone I speak to plays games. A couple of months ago I was on tour with Dizzee Rascal, and we were backstage with this POGA – it’s like a suitcase turned into a portable screen with a PS5 – and we’re backstage playing FIFA.”

With a song on the Sumotherhood soundtrack and some recent success in Twitch streaming, it only made sense to strengthen the link between gaming and music with tonight’s event featuring Sumotherhood stars, facilitated by Tundra Esports and Paramount Pictures. P Money has become one of the biggest names in grime, but he’s still grounded when talking about being featured on soundtracks like Sumotherhood.

“As a fan of the film, when you get to be a part of it, even though it’s a small part, you watch a film and hear something you created, and you had no idea that somewhere down the line it would be in a movie that you’re into. It’s always a good feeling, especially when you can show the family or you surprise the family by letting them watch it, and then they hear it.”

EA Sports FC 24 also marks the fifth consecutive game that has featured P Money on the soundtrack, which is quite the achievement, and he tells us: “Just yesterday I scored against my friend, and it turns out his goal celebration that plays whenever you score is my song. So it’s always a good laugh.”

But P Money has nothing to fear when it comes to losing, as he explains: “I don’t wanna blow my own trumpet, but yeah, like, it’s kinda set in stone, I wouldn’t tell anyone to bet against me right now.” If you want to see more from P Money, you can see him play EA Sports FC, NBA, and more on P Money’s Twitch channel.
