While early summer normally marks the start of a quiet period in the gaming year, 2025 isn’t letting up, as June is just as packed with big releases as any other this year. On one side of things, we have highly anticipated titles like Death Stranding 2 dropping this month, while on the other, Nintendo is releasing its next console generation with the Nintendo Switch 2, and all the launch content that comes with it.

There’s a lot to cover, so it’s easy to let some games slip through the cracks so here’s our rundown of the best games set to release in June 2025.

Deltarune Chapters 3 & 4 – June 4

Deltarune / Toby Fox

Toby Fox’s episodic follow-up to smash indie hit Undertale has two new chapters coming, so look forward to all your timelines being taken over by more fan art from this universe. At this point, you’re either already all-in on these games and know everything about them or have decided they’re not for you and do your best to avoid them, so you likely have already decided whether or not you’re buying this, but it’s still undoubtedly one of the month’s biggest releases.

Nintendo Switch 2 – June 5

The follow-up to an all-time great console is finally here, setting the stage for Nintendo’s next generation in a big way. While brand-new first party titles will be slowly coming out over the coming months, several games, like Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, are getting upgraded versions for the new console, while other games, like Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet, are getting free updates to improve the experience on Switch 2.

Mario Kart World – June 5

Mario Kart World / Nintendo

The big first-party game launching alongside the Switch 2 is the first completely new Mario Kart game since 2014, Mario Kart World. This game is taking the series open world, with Grand Prixs and new modes that will see you racing between tracks, as well as doing traditional races. It no doubt has a bunch of surprises in store to go along with Mario Kart World’s character roster, and is one of the year’s biggest releases.

MindsEye – June 10

Two cars drifting down the street as the sun sets ahead of them.
MindsEye / IO Interactive

This game is perhaps most notable for the pedigree behind it, as it is being developed by a team featuring former Grand Theft Auto developers. It promises to be a narrative-driven single-player shooter, the likes of which we don’t see very often these days, meaning it will hopefully fill a void that not many developers are currently looking to cater to. Either way, it’ll be exciting to see what this team can do on a smaller project like this.

The Alters – June 13

A large sci-fi base in a big circular structure, with a side-on look at all of the rooms.
The Alters / 11-bit Studios

The next big release from the team behind This War of Mine and Frostpunk, The Alters is another survival management-sim, this time in a sci-fi setting where your survivor must use many alternate versions of himself to keep his base running and himself alive. The setting will let you explore hostile terrain on alien planets, and will no doubt feature the classic moral dilemmas that these games are known for. Though if all the characters are alternate versions of the same person, it seems like there will be a disappointing lack of child labour.

FBC: Firebreak – June 17

FBC: Firebreak / Remedy Entertainment

Remedy is trying their hands at a co-operative multiplayer title now, with FBC: Firebreak being set in the Control universe, some time after the events of that game. You’ll team up in teams of up to three and take on the many weird creatures in the FBC in first-person shooter action. With a variety of roles and weapons, it’s potentially a very interesting game.

Tron: Catalyst – June 17

An isometric view of a street in Tron, with someone riding a bike down the road.
Tron: Catalyst / Devolver Digital

Mike Bithell is at it again, releasing a sequel to his 2023 title, Tron: Identity. Set in the iconic sci-fi universe, where the first game was more of a detective thriller, this time the visual novel gameplay is mixed in with isometric action sections. As with all of Bithell’s titles, there will be a big emphasis on narrative that will hopefully blend well with the gameplay for another memorable experience.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach – June 26

Death Stranding 2 / Sony

No matter what you thought of the first game, it’s hard not to be intrigued by the next step in the Death Stranding series, if only to see what weird and wild character names Hideo Kojima comes up with next. This sequel promises to continue the first game’s story in a big way while also bringing the gameplay forward. It will likely be a divisive title, like the first game, but it’s hard not to respect it.

Persona 5: The Phantom X – June 26

The Phantom X protagonist summoning his persona.
Persona 5: The Phantom X / Atlus

After a long time being only available in Asia, Persona 5: The Phantom X is coming to the West at the end of the month. This game follows a new protagonist but is set in the Persona 5 universe, only this time it’s a gacha game. There are still some question marks over exactly where it’s launching, as the game’s Steam page doesn’t list June 26 as the launch date, so it’s worth keeping an eye on. Either way, it’s definitely coming to iOS and Android on that date.

Word Play – TBC

A board of letters with various modifiers around it, stipulating the score.
Word Play / Game Maker's Toolkit

While the exact date isn’t yet set, World Play is promised to be coming in June 2025. This is the next game by Mark Brown of Game Maker’s Toolkit, after his success with magnet-based puzzler Mind Over Magnet last year. This game looks a bit like Scrabble-meets-Balatro, as you’ll be spelling words to maximize your score, with power-ups, modifiers, and other fun little mechanics tucked away. It looks extremely addictive, and I can’t wait to lose many hours to it.
