The fact that Cyberpunk 2077 could barely even run on a PS4 at launch, and now it’s available on a handheld console, is unbelievable. It runs an awful lot better on Switch 2 than it ever did on PS4, too. While it may not be worth buying the game again if you’ve already played it before, having a game as deep and as beautiful as Cyberpunk in a portable format is almost worth it for the novelty alone.

Still, the console does have its limitations, and whether or not to play the game in performance or quality mode depends on how you like to play, so we’ll break down both modes.

If you want to play the game in handheld mode, then we recommend performance mode. While there isn’t a huge difference in performance for handheld vs docked, what makes a big impact is the fact that VRR is only available for handheld mode. So, when playing in performance mode, which targets 40fps, it’ll be pretty smooth.

The same cannot be said for docked mode, where the lack of VRR means that the 40fps often doesn’t hold as steady when playing in performance mode, leading to the framerate being a little choppy. That’s why we say it’s better to play in quality mode when docked, as you’ll experience a smooth 30fps instead of a choppy 40.
