Digimon Story: Time Stranger – How to get Digi-Eggs and Spirits

Armor and Hybrid evolutions are well worth pursuing in the latest Digimon game — here's how
Bandai Namco

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is packed with hundreds of Digimon to collect and battle with, and evolving and devolving these creatures is part of the core gameplay loop. There’s a host of different ways to evolve your Digimon, including DNA Evolution which merges two Digimon, and form changes, but one of the more interesting evolution types are Armor Evolution and Spirit Evolution.

Armor Evolution is a special type of evolution that evolves a Rookie Digimon into a special level of Digimon called Armor. Spirit Evolution is very similar, and both produce Digimon that range from roughly Champion rank in power level all the way up to Mega rank or above. This makes them a fantastic addition to your team, especially in the early- and mid-game, so they’re well worth your time.

To use Armor Evolution or Spirit Evolution, you’ll need to get Digi-Eggs and Spirits, which are unlocked partway through the game. In this guide we’ll go over how to get Digi-Eggs and Spirits, as well as what requirements you need to unlock them.

How to unlock Digi-Eggs and Spirits – Digimon Story: Time Stranger

In order to unlock the ability to obtain Digi-Eggs and Spirits, you’ll need to progress through the story a certain amount. Slight story spoilers follow, which we’ve placed after the image below, but they are necessary for explaining how to unlock them.

In order to unlock Digi-Eggs and Spirits, you’ll need to progress through the game until you get to the Factorial Area. This is an industrial area watched over by Vulcanismon, one of the Olympos XII, and is the third major area you’ll visit.

You’ll need to progress through the entire story in this area, then revisit it after you’ve defeated Vulcanusmon. Once you have, you can visit Vulcanusmon at the bottom of the Factorial Area – an elevator near the entrance can take you down to his arena – and he will offer to craft you a host of items, including both Digi-Eggs and Spirits, but only if you bring the required items.

Later in the game, Vulcanusmon is no longer available to talk to, but a Guardromon in the Factorial Area takes over his duties while he’s unavailable.

Digi-Eggs and Spirits crafting requirements – Digimon Story: Time Stranger

Each Digi-Egg and Spirit requires a certain amount of items or move discs to trade to Vulcanusmon, most of which can be purchased in other stores around the world. Of note, though, are the food items required for the Human Spirits of Light and Flame, which can only be found in the human world. If it’s not too late, you should pick those up at the beginning of the game in Shinjuku, before heading to the Digital World, but otherwise you’ll have to wait quite some time before you can collect these items.
