Elden Ring Nightreign: All Shifting Earth events and rewards explained
By Dave Aubrey

If you want to make the most of your run in Elden Ring: Nightreign, then you can’t ignore the Shifting Earth events. It might be tempting to go to bed and bring the Shifting Earth to an end, but if you lock in with your party and head straight toward the heart of a Shifting Earth event, you can earn incredible rewards that just might give you enough strength to take down whatever Nightlord you’re going up against.
Shifting Earth events feel unpredictable when you don’t know what to expect, but once you’ve gotten to the heart of one once, you’ll know how to do it time and time again. In this guide we’re breaking down how each Shifting Earth event works, and the rewards you can get from each.
All Shifting Earth events explained
Shifting Earth, explained – Nightreign
Shifting Earth events completely change an entire quarter of the map in Limveld. Shifting Earth can be caused after defeating a Nightlord, and will persist for some time — though you can sleep at the bed in the Roundtable Hold to bring Shifting Earth to an early end. You shouldn’t do that, though, as Shifting Earth events can offer amazing rewards.
Earth Shifting Earth event will offer you an upgrade of some kind that can make your entire team far more powerful in a specific way. In order to get the rewards you must head to the heart of the event, which is the bottom of the Crater, the top of the Mountaintop, the center of the Rotted Woods, and central chamber of Noklateo. We recommend exploring as much of Limveld as possible on Day 1, and then heading over to the Shifting Earth event on Day 2 for an efficient run.
The Crater, explained – Nightreign
The Crater comes in the form of a massive hole in the Northern center of the map that spews lava. It’s hard to ignore, and looks incredibly dangerous, but that’s why the reward is so precious. For this Shifting Earth event you must descend to the lowest level of the Crater, where a fierce boss fight will be waiting for you. Getting down involves hugging the edge of the crater and looking out for new places to drop down safely.
Once you get to the bottom and conquer the boss, you’ll earn the ability to turn any of your armaments into a Legendary grade weapon. If you already have a weapon you really like, this is a fantastic advantage, and makes The Crater one of the best Shifting Earth events for acquiring strength.
The Mountaintop, explained – Nightreign
You must make your way to the Mountaintop’s peak in the Northwest portion of the map in order to earn the reward here, and it won’t be easy. The mountain has been cleaved in two, with chains connecting the sides, and you’ll need to work hard to ascend to the very top.
Once you get up and manage to defeat the bosses standing in your way, you’ll get powerful Frostbite protection, in addition to more damage against dragons. Very handy for taking down any dragons that you’ve left alive on the mountain.
Rotted Woods, explained – Nightreign
The Rotted Woods spawns in the Southeast, and it offers a unique challenge. You’ll constantly take Scarlet Rot damage here, and the enemies deal it too, but the reward for the area will grant complete Scarlet Rot immunity, which is ideal for certain Incantations, and this location. In addition, attacking quickly after getting hit will actually recover some HP, a bit like Bloodborne.
If you beeline for the reward first, you’ll be in a great position to take down the various World Bosses that spawn within the Rotted Woods. You can earn a massive amount of Runes and rewards by taking down the enemies in the nearby area, and you can easily spend the entire of Day 2 here. It’ll be worth it, too.
Noklateo, the Shrouded City, explained – Nightreign
If you’re familiar with the underground cities of Elden Ring, then Noklateo, the Shrouded City, will be familiar. This event appears in the Southwest of the map, and has a large chamber at the rear that resembles Anor Londo’s most famous boss room. This is where you’ll find your reward, guarded by a tough boss.
The reward here is the ability to rise from defeat once, which can potentially save an entire run for your troop of Nightfarers. There are also a bunch of World Bosses to hunt in Noklateo, though they’re a bit tougher to access and battle than in the Rotted Woods, but there’s still plenty of Runes and rewards to be earned here.
