Endless Legend 2: How to sacrifice population as the Last Lords
By Marco Wutz

The Broken Lords from Endless Legend are back as the Last Lords in Endless Legend 2, but let the name change not confuse you: They’re still undead constructs addicted to Dust. While some of them still like to think of themselves as chivalrous, their noble heritage mostly expresses itself in exploiting the peasants for their own benefit — and “exploiting” means eating their souls.

Indeed, it’s possible that you’ll be tasked to sacrifice your population as part of the Last Lords’ main questline in Endless Legend 2, but that’s easier said than done if you’re playing them for the first time and have never used this unique faction mechanic.

How to get foreign population in Endless Legend 2
Even the Last Lords aren’t so far gone that they’d sacrifice their own people to their hunger for Dust, so you’ll first need to get your hands on foreign pops — this can be pops from any minor faction or from other major powers.
Let’s look at minor factions first. Once you’ve pacified a settlement and built a Lord’s Estate on it, you can use the “Population Buyout” feature in the city overview to pay some Dust to add a new population unit from that faction to your city. Likewise, you can forcefully abduct population from villages you’ve built an Estate on — this doesn’t cost Dust, but can lead to a rebellion, meaning you need to re-pacify the village.
Gaining pops from other major powers can be done two ways: One is to attack and sack a city belonging to them, which gives you the option of taking some of their population as spoils. The second is to research the Diplomatic Manse technology and enact a Migration Treaty with other factions. This will give you the option to use “Population Buyout” to add pops of those factions to your cities, where they can be sacrificed.

Once you have foreign populations in your city, you can use the “Sacrifice Population” feature in the city overview — it’s placed to the right of the “Population Buyout” function. Aside from doing this to complete the main quest, in case you’re tasked with this mission, sacrificing pops has the important function of allowing you to grow your native population of Last Lords.
For every two pops you sacrifice, you’ll see one Last Lord spawn in your city. Since they are no longer able to reproduce, the Last Lords need to sacrifice living beings in order to awaken their slumbering kind — they’re a little bit like the Necrons from Warhammer 40,000, only those poor guys have lost their souls as well, while the Last Lords have merely lost their organic bodies.
Note that foreign population can only be sacrificed if it’s moved to the Citizen category. Any Artisan or Scribe pops will not be sacrificed. To move pops from one category to another, simply drag and drop them.
