Genshin Impact: Give Direidyth the key or keep it?
By Marco Wutz

Genshin Impact 5.7 is out and has brought a brand-new Archon Quest into the game: A Space and Time For You features the Abyss Order mounting attacks all over Natlan and the Traveler encountering a strange girl called Direidyth, who is looking for the Savior — the Traveler’s twin. The Traveler also finds a key belonging to the spaceship the siblings used once upon a time.
After you help Dainsleif destroy the Abyss Order’s forces and learn about the purpose of the attack, you return to Direidyth to confirm if the Order truly had success in re-weaving the Ley Lines of Khaenri'ah using the Loom of Fate.
Meeting Direidyth again confirms the Traveler’s suspicions: She is a specter of the past — the real Direidyth is long gone, having suffered the same fate as most Khaenri'ahns in the form of being transformed into a Hilichurl. That’s right: The Hilichurl fleeing from the cave at the start of the quest where you find the Hibernation Chamber Key from the twins’ spaceship is Direidyth.
But something – or someone, since Istaroth the Shade of Time is the prime suspect – has allowed Direidyth’s past self to transcend space-time to interact with the future and meet the Traveler, causing a terrible disaster to happen.
Touching her hands once more, the Traveler is transported into Direidyth’s original timeline, at the time of the Cataclysm — we can see the Heavenly Principles’ influence in the form of their signature red-black rectangles in the air.
Here, the Traveler pieces two and two together and needs to make a decision: Do you give the Hibernation Chamber Key to Direidyth, enabling her and the item to end up in that cave, or do you keep the key to try and change her fate?
Unfortunately, it seems like Direidyth’s fate is not meant to be changed. Even if you don’t give her the key, the other sibling will appear and give it to her, ensuring that events play out in the same way in the future, despite the grave consequences for Khaenri'ah.
No matter what you choose to do, Direidyth will end up with the key in her own timeline and present it to the other sibling upon finding them, causing them to abandon Khaenri'ah to the Cataclysm in favor of seeking their twin. Events all play out as they are ‘supposed’ to — the destruction of Khaenri'ah, the other sibling becoming the Abyss Order’s leader, the Traveler waking up alone and beginning their journey 500 years after their sibling, and so forth.
The Abyss Twin clarified that they didn’t simply become the leader of the Abyss Order due to guilt — taking over the Order and rebuilding Khaenri'ah is a way to amass the immense power necessary to confront the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles on equal footing. This is likely why they don’t want to change what happened.
What you decide to do, therefore, is largely a question of flavor: Do you want your Traveler to be more resigned, accepting that they can’t change fate, or do you want them to keep trying, even if it’s fruitless in the end?
