Learn how to reach the new maximum level of characters.

Genshin Impact Luna I is finally available, bringing a host of brand-new content and features to the open-world RPG, including a new maximum character level: Instead of level 90, characters can now reach level 100. This increases their base stats, enhancing their damage and toughness.

However, leveling up characters from 90 to 100 functions differently than getting them from level 1 to 90, which requires you to collect specific materials and drops obtained from enemies as well as invest materials to increase character XP. Level 100 is not tied to either of these elements.

Find out how to reach character level 100 in Genshin Impact below.

How to upgrade a character to level 100 in Genshin Impact

Upgrading a character to the maximum level in Genshin Impact requires a new item introduced with update Luna I: Masterless Stella Fortuna.

How to obtain Masterless Stella Fortuna

Stella Fortuna usually is tied to a specific character — it’s the item you get when you obtain the duplicate of a character you already own, which can then be used to upgrade their Constellation level. However, since the release of Luna I, you will receive Masterless Stella Fortuna whenever you obtain a 5-Star character whose Constellations you’ve already maxed out.  You do not gain the item from obtaining additional copies of 4-Star characters.

You need to get eight copies of a single 5-Star character to receive your first Masterless Stella Fortuna, so this is very much a mechanic for longtime players and heavy spenders.

How to reach level 100

Masterless Stella Fortuna can then be used to increase any character’s maximum level:

  • Masterless Stella Fortuna x1 – increases level cap from 90 to 95
  • Masterless Stella Fortuna x2 – increases level cap from 95 to 100

In total, you’ll need three Masterless Stella Fortuna to get a single character to level 100, which equals to having to obtain a single 5-Star character ten times — a monumental undertaking. At least there’s some help with that now: The “To Temper Thyself and Journey Far” event enables you to unlock additional Stellar Fortuna for characters you own, getting you one step closer to that goal of ten copies.
