Hades 2 Dissolution of Time: How to defeat Chronos permanently
By Ryan Woodrow

From the moment you start Hades 2, your end goal is clear: you must put an end to Chronos once and for all to free the underworld and your family. This is easier said than done though, as whenever you make it to the depths of Tartarus and kill Chronos, he will simply reform the next night. We’ll explain the requirements you need to meet to slay the titan of time permanently and end the game’s main questline.

How many runs will it take to beat Hades 2?
If you want to know how long it’s going to take you to beat the game then, in as spoiler-free a fashion as possible, beating the main quest will take a minimum of 12 successful runs, a “successful run” being one where you defeat the final boss. However, these are split between the underworld and the surface.
In all, you need to complete 7 successful underworld runs and 5 successful surface runs.
Keep reading below to find out the details of how it all breaks down.
How to complete Dissolution of Time – Hades 2
After defeating Chronos for the first time, you will get your first chance to visit Zagreus in his dream and talk to him about helping you defeat Chronos. Afterwards, speak to Hecate and you will unlock the Incantation “Dissolution of Time,” which asks for 5 Z-Sand and 1 unknown ingredient.
You must then defeat Chronos five more times for a total of six wins. This will do three main things:
- Ensure you have enough Z-Sand by defeating Chronos enough times.
- Progress Zagreus’ plotline to the point where he locates a weapon capable of destroying Chronos, Gigaros.
- Reveal the mystery ingredient in the incantation.
That ingredient is Entropy, though you get no indication on how to acquire such an item. It’s not going to be easy either, as the answer lies atop Mount Olympus.
How to complete Disintegration of Monstrosity – Hades 2
Once you’ve defeated Chronos six times, it’s time to focus on surface runs, as there’s very little for you to do in the underworld once you’ve reached this point. Reach the summit of Olympus and defeat Typhon for the first time. This will unlock another Incantation, “Disintegration of Monstrosity”, which needs to be completed before you can defeat Chronos.
To do so, you will need to defeat Typhon a total of 4 times to get 4 V-Lens, and then combine them with 1 Z-Sand and Gigaros. Once you’ve done that, you must defeat Typhon one more time to use the weapon. Doing it this way will get you Entropy.
Now that you have the final ingredient, you can complete Dissolution of Time, then it takes just one more run down into the underworld to put an end to Chronos for good.
Can you keep playing after defeating Chronos?
Yes, several things about the world state will change after defeating Chronos, but there is a bunch of post-game content you can unlock by continuing to do runs.
