Hollow Knight: Silksong – How to unlock the grappling hook (Clawline)

As you progress through the Citadel in Act 2 of Hollow Knight: Silksong, you’ll start to notice hooks hanging around the place that look perfect for grappling onto. You’d be right to think that, although you’ll have to head downwards to unlock the tool for the job. We’ll explain how to unlock the grappling hook, called the Clawline, in Hollow Knight: Silksong so that you can get this essential upgrade.

How to unlock the Clawline – HK: Silksong

When you first entered the Citadel, you no doubt found a locked lift at the base of the first main shaft of the area. You’ll need to find the key somewhere in the Citadel to unlock this – check out our guide on White Key location in Silksong for the exact location. Once you’ve got that, you can head down into Whiteward. It’s a short area, and you only need to progress downwards to unlock the eastern half of the Underworks.

Explore around there, you’ll find several big caverns full of lava and magma floors – if you haven’t already worked out how to cross magma in Silksong, now would be a good time. Head down the main shaft (the one full of cogwork bugs), head to the east, and follow the path around until you enter a vast lava chamber. At the far end of that chamber, you’ll find the altar you need to Bind at to unlock the Clawline.
