Hollow Knight: Silksong – Where to use the Simple Key

While you’ll often find your path blocked by obstacles that require new abilities in Hollow Knight: Silksong, sometimes you’ll be blocked by the simplest of all obstacles: a locked door. Silksong does warn you of your presence, though, as when you first stop off in Bone Bottom, you’ll find a vendor there who sells a Simple Key for 500 Rosaries – check out our guide on Rosary Strings in Silksong to learn more about saving up –  but that immediately raises the question of where you’ll need to use it.

We’ll explain where to use the Simple Key in Hollow Knight: Silksong, and what is behind the door that it unlocks.

Where to use the simple key – HK: Silksong

We’ve currently found two doors that require Simple Keys, which is irritating, as the Bone Bottom vendor only sells one key, and said key is a one-time use item.

Mosshold Simple Key door

Head to the southwest of Mosshold, where you’ll find the cages that hang over the giant chasm containing Bone Bottom. Make sure you head down and activate the lift in case you fall, as you’ll need either the Swift Step or the Drifter’s Cloak to get over – or, if you’re ambitious, you can Dive Strike off the bugs to bounce across, but this will take a few goes.

Head over, you’ll find a large bug that spits acid at you. Use the little platforms to shield yourself and get across the room – don’t worry about defeating it yet. Head out the west exit of the room, and you’ll come face-to-face with this door. There’s also a Mask Piece behind a piece of breakable wall if you drop into the water below.

Unlocking it reveals an entrance to the Wormway, a unique area that holds some special items, though you will need abilities like wall jump to find all the secrets it has to offer, though.

Deep Docks Simple Key door

In the room in the Deep Docks with the Forge Daughter and the Bench, the bottom path (past where you fought an enemy gauntlet), you’ll find this Simple Key door. If you unlock this one, you’ll be taken down a small path that leads to the Flintslate tool, which you can use to temporarily ignite your blade to deal flame damage to foes when striking them.
