Hollow Knight: Silksong is a difficult game, but if you’ve truly managed to master it, then there is one very difficult challenge for you to take on: Steel Soul mode. This is an unforgiving mode where every mistake is harshly punished, and even veterans will likely need several attempts to conquer it.
We’ll explain everything you need to know about Steel Soul mode in Hollow Knight: Silksong, what it does, and how to unlock it.
What is Steel Soul mode
Steel Soul is a permadeath mode. That means that if you die, you must start the whole game over. Silksong isn’t a short game, and players are expected to die a lot during their first playthrough, so you can imagine how hard it will be to beat the entire thing without a single death.
How to unlock Steel Soul mode
It’s time for some classic secret design. To unlock this mode, you need to go into the Extras menu and enter the Konami code, or most of it, at least. While on the menu, press: Up, Down, Up Down, Left, Right, Left, Right. The screen will flash, and a sound effect will play. Then, when you go to start a new game, you’ll have the option to play in normal mode or Steel Soul mode.
