Nintendo fixes Switch error 2206-1015 in latest firmware update
By Marco Wutz

Nintendo published a major Switch firmware update earlier this week in preparation for the arrival of the Switch 2. Unfortunately, one consistent rule of updates came into effect: Stuff breaks when you touch it. Some Switch owners are plagued by ugly system crashes since Version 20.0.0 was released, making them unable to use their console. Now, Nintendo has delivered a hotfix as part of Version 20.0.1.
The fix should prevent the error 2206-1015 from happening again on start-up, though anyone affected will need to force their console to apply the hotfix first.
How to fix Nintendo Switch error 2206-1015
To force a system update on a Switch affected by error 2206-1015, you’ll need to access the console’s maintenance mode. Follow the steps below to do that:
- Power down your Switch.
- Hold down the volume up and down buttons on your Switch. They are located right next to the power button.
- While holding down the two volume buttons, press the power button.
- Keep holding down the two volume buttons until maintenance mode appears.
- Once maintenance mode is active, select the “Update System” option and follow the instructions on the screen.
This will enable your Switch to download and install the latest firmware update without being blocked by the error 2206-1015 crash. Keep in mind that Version 20.0.1 only delivered a fix for this specific error — if you’re suffering from other issues, this solution is not going to help at the moment and you should contact support.
