Mario Kart World: How to unlock Rainbow Road
By Ryan Woodrow

Rainbow Road is arguably the most iconic track in all of Mario Kart, with every game in the franchise having a new version of it, usually given to players as the final challenge to put them to the test. This multicolored course has as many twists and turns as possible and usually has minimal railings, meaning falling to your doom is always just one mistake away.
However, you’ll find that at first glance, it doesn’t seem like Mario Kart World has Rainbow Road anywhere in its open world. That’s because you have to unlock it, and we’ll explain how.
How to unlock Rainbow Road in MKW
Unlocking it is quite simple, you must simply complete every cup in Grand Prix mode to unlock both Rainbow Road and the Special Cup – one final Grand Prix that ends at the iconic track.
Thankfully, “complete” in this case doesn’t mean you have to win every Grand Prix. It doesn’t matter where you place, all that matters is that you’ve crossed the finish line for every race. Which cc you play on also doesn’t matter.
Once that’s done, you’ll need to complete the Special Cup if you want to unlock Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World.
Can you play on Rainbow Road in Free Roam?
Unfortunately, unlocking Rainbow Road and the Special Cup doesn’t let you access it in Free Roam mode. The portal you use to travel to it in the Grand Prix doesn’t exist in the mode, so you have no way to reach the track, which is a bit disappointing considering all the work you have to put in to unlock it. However, once you have it unlocked, you can select it in Versus Mode and online.
