Oblivion Remastered: What does Willpower do?
By Ryan Woodrow

When creating your character in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, the many different attributes and skills that you can modify are mostly self-explanatory. Things like Strength, Agility, and Endurance are the kinds of things we’ve seen in plenty of RPGs over the years, but the glaring exception in Oblivion is Willpower, as the name alone doesn’t make it obvious what it does.
We’ll explain what this stat does and how worth your while it is to spend time levelling it up. Speaking of, we've explained how the Oblivion Remastered levelling system works, as it's different from the original game.
What is Willpower in Oblivion?
Willpower has two major functions, determining the following:
- Magicka regeneration rate
- Total Fatigue (this game’s equivalent to Stamina) in conjunction with other stats
If you’re going for a magic build then Willpower is quite important, as the quicker your Magicka regenerates, the more often you’ll be able to cast spells. However, Intelligence is arguably more important on this front, as it determines your total Magicka and has a minor effect on regenerations too.
The effect on total Fatigue is good, but it is not the only stat that does this, as Strength, Agility, and Endurance all combine with Willpower to determine your Fatigue capacity.
It’s also worth noting that if you take the Atronach Birthsign then Willpower cannot affect your Magicka regeneration as it is completely disabled, meaning it will only affect Fatigue, so keep that in mind when building your character.
