With the P5X Version 2.3 update, the long-awaited 110 banners have been implemented, giving you a choice of how you want to try and pull the limited-time 5-star characters when they’re added to the game. However, you may be a little confused about the specifics of the differences between these two banner types and which is actually better.

We’ll break down both of the new Chance contracts and Targeted contracts, explaining the differences between each and which one is better.

What are Chance contracts? – P5X

Persona 5: The Phantom X / Atlus

Chance contracts are the old banner system that has been in the game since Day 1. In this system, every limited-time banner has a chance to pull all of the freely available 5-star characters alongside the limited-time “Most Wanted” character. In a Chance banner, you have a 0.8% chance of pulling any 5-star on a pull, and a 0.4% chance of pulling the Most Wanted character.

In this banner, you will get a guaranteed 5-star character after 80 pulls. However, the 80th pull only has a 50/50 chance to be the Most Wanted character. If you lose that coin flip, then you’ll have to make another 80 pulls before you get the guaranteed Most Wanted pull, for a total of 160 pulls.

What are Targeted contracts? – P5X

In a Trageted contract, the only 5-star you can pull is the Most Wanted character, which has a flat rate of 0.4%. This means you won’t get your build up to the guaranteed pulls cut short by a different 5-star you don’t want.

In this banner, you are guaranteed to get the Most Wanted character within 110 pulls, just like that. There are no 50/50 chances or anything like that; if you don’t get the Most Wanted character in the previous 109 pulls, your 110th one is guaranteed to give it to you.

Are Chance or Targeted contracts better? – P5X

Chance contracts theoretically let you get the Most Wanted character for a limited time banner sooner, but you require luck to be on your side with the 50/50 pull, and if you’ve played the game for any length of time, you’ll know the heartbreak of losing that coin flip.

This means that, despite 110 pulls being more to get your guaranteed 5-star, if you’re targeting the Most Wanted character, Targeted contracts are always better. While you might get lucky on a Chance contract in the short term, if you’re in the game for the long haul, pulling lots of new characters as they come out, Targeted contracts will cost you a lot less money in the long run.
