When playing a gacha game, you’ll often be at the whims of RNG. That’s by design of course, but if you’re worried about staring into a bottomless pit to throw your money into, never fear, as when starting Persona 5: The Phantom X for the first time, there is a way to tip the scales and put the odds in your favor – at least for your first set of pulls.

We’ll explain how to reroll your starting picks in P5X so you can set out with the best party possible.

When you install the game on PC for the first time, you’ll be given a guest account to play with, with the idea that you can bind it to a service like Steam or Google to carry your save across platforms. However, don’t do this if you want to reroll.

Instead, play through the game until Contracts become available – it takes about half an hour or so if you’re rushing through it. Play a little more to gather up resources if you want, but make sure you go into your mailbox and grab the freebies you get for starting the game. You can then go into those and start making pulls on the Banners to see what you get.

If you get the pulls you were after then great, you don’t need to reroll. If you didn’t get luck though, follow these steps:

  • Back out to the main menu
  • Go to the “Users” option
  • Delete your account
  • Start the game again and repeat

You can do this over and over until you get the pulls you’re after.

Of course, you need to know what you’re looking for. During the game’s launch window, there are two options for the best starting picks: Joker or Panther.

Joker is an extremely powerful Curse-based damage dealer who lives up to the legend of the Persona 5 protagonist. He is part of the limited-time banner that launches with the game, so your odds will be long to get him at first.

Panther is another good damage dealer with Fire-based attacks, and her A1 ability will increase the attack power of everyone else in the party, so she makes everyone stronger just by being in there. She is also a lot easier to get a hold of, as you can select her as a guaranteed 5-star pull after making 50 pulls on the beginner Banner. But who knows, you might get lucky and pull Ann earlier than that, which will let you pick either Morgana or Ryuji as your guaranteed 5-star pull.

Once you’ve got yourself set up with the picks that you want, you can carry on with the game’s story. Check out our guides on all romance options in P5X and all classroom answers in P5X for more details.
