Persona 5: The Phantom X – Thief's Cognitite Shards explained

With the many things added in P5X’s Version 2.0 update, it’s easy to get lost when navigating all of the new stuff that’s added. Most intriguing is one new type of item, the Thief’s Cognitite Shards. These are powerful new items that can be used to make your 5-star characters stronger than ever before, so we’ll break down exactly how they work and how you can get them.
What do Thief’s Cognitite Shards do? – P5X
On their own, nothing, but when you have 60 of them, you can craft them into a Cognitite for the following Phantom Idols:
Using a Cognitite Shard will raise the Awareness Level of the chosen thief by one, unlocking new abilities for them and increasing their base stats. It’s also been promised that the list of Phantom Idols will grow over time to include more recently-added characters too.
It’s important to note that in order to use the Cognitite Shard, you need to already have the character on your roster. This won’t let you unlock Joker if you didn’t already pull him from his banner, for example, you need to already have them unlocked to increase their Awareness Level.
How to get Thief’s Cognitite Shards – P5X
First of all, after the 2.0 update, 60 shards were given away to all players for free, meaning you can get yourself a full Cognitite straight away. But aside from that, you need to complete the Weekly Tasks.
These are the side-missions where you can send off a team of your Phantom Idols on a mission for a few hours to get rewards. The Weekly missions from this list will give you both Gold Contracts and Thief’s Cognitite Shards. It’ll take quite a while for you to get 60 – as you are essentially circumventing the Platinum Contracts system – but it’s worth the effort to get the most out of the game’s best characters.
