Pokémon Legends: Z-A has a wide array of new Mega Evolutions to try out, but perhaps the most exciting are those for the Kalos starters, who never got Megas despite being part of the generation where it was introduced. Now they finally get their time to shine, but you’ll need to participate in the first three seasons of ranked battles to get your hands on the stones.

We’ll explain what you need to do to get the first of these rewards, Greninjite, which will unlock Mega Greninja, so you don’t miss out.

To get Greninjite, you’ll need to reach Rank K in Season 1 of the ranked battles. Don’t worry though, this doesn’t mean you need to win a load of battles, as you can rank up quite easily just by participating.

This first season runs until November 5 at 9:59 am UTC, so you have until then to reach this rank and claim the Greninjite.

The rank system in this game is a points-based system. You can earn points based on how you perform in the battle, as well as the various things you can do within a battle.

Firstly, you earn or lose points based on how you place in each battle:

  • 1st – 30 points
  • 2nd – 10 points
  • 3rd – -10 points
  • 4th – -30 points

However, even if you place last, you can still gain points overall by doing several of the following tasks, all of which earn you 10 points:

  • Defeating an opposing Pokémon (10 points for each)
  • Being the first player to deal damage
  • Being the last player to deal damage
  • Being the first player to pick up an item
  • Being the first player to Mega Evolve their Pokémon
  • Complete the battle without having a Pokémon faint
  • Being the player who attacks full-HP Pokémon the most
  • Defeat an opposing Mega-Evolved Pokémon (10 points for each)
  • Defeat a Pokémon while Mega-Evolved (10 points for each)
  • Being the player who unleashes the most attacks
  • Defeat an opposing Pokémon with a Plus Move (10 points for each)
  • Defeat at least one Pokémon from each opponent
  • Use super-effective moves five or more times
  • Get three consecutive KOs

Note that, unlike the main game’s Z-A Royale, the online mode does have you progress through all 26 letters of the alphabet, meaning you will need to rank up 15 times to reach Rank K, though the point thresholds for doing so aren’t too high.
