After a week of hard-fought event Tera raids, it was announced that players were ultimately successful in their attempts to defeat 1 million Wo-Chien, surpassing the goal with great ease. As a result, players around the world are now free to claim a shiny Wo-Chien in-game — the first time the Pokémon has become available in its shiny form to date.

In this guide we’ll go over how to claim your shiny Wo-Chien in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, including who is eligible for the gift Pokémon.

Pokémon SV: How to get shiny Wo-Chien

Players are now able to claim a free shiny Wo-Chien through the Mystery Gift feature in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. At the time of writing this is the only way to get a shiny Wo-Chien, as the Pokémon is shiny-locked in-game and cannot be legitimately found in the wild in its shiny form.

To claim the gift, first open up the menu and navigate to the Poké Portal option in the menu. From there, scroll down to Mystery Gift, and select “Get via Internet”.

The game will spend a little bit of time loading, and connecting you to the internet if you’re not connected already, and then search for gifts. In the list, you’ll see two new gifts: a shiny Wo-Chien, and a “Grass Tera Shards and More Gift”. Both gifts are worth grabbing, but the shiny Wo-Chien is obviously the drawcard here.

The Grass Tera Shards gift will give all players 100 each of Grass, Bug, Poison, and Fairy Tera Shards, which can be used to change the Tera type of a Pokémon.

There are a few things worth noting about these gifts. Firstly, anyone can claim the shiny Wo-Chien gift — not just players who participated in raids for the Pokémon. This should hold true for future shiny raid gifts, too, so players don’t need to stress too much about missing out if they don’t have time or can’t access their console.

Secondly, the shiny Wo-Chien gift is only available to claim until September 30, 2025. If you don’t claim the gift – or the Tera Shard gift – before this date, you risk missing out altogether, so make sure you grab it before then.
