Pokémon TCG Pocket: Best deck for the Ultra Beast Drop event

Find the best decks, all battle tasks, rewards, and promo cards in the latest TCG Pocket Drop event.
The Pokémon Company

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s latest battle event is here, running from today, June 4  to June 14, 2025. This event focuses on Ultra Beast cards, including Ultra Necrozma ex, a fascinating Dragon-type Pokémon card that tries to combine Metal and Psychic-type cards into one cohesive deck.

Battle Events require event-specific stamina to participate in, with one gem of stamina recovering every 12 hours. Thankfully, you won’t expend any stamina if you lose the battle, and Event Hourglasses, which reduce the timer for stamina, can be earned by completing battles for the first time alongside a few other rewards. Each card battle also has a series of Battle Tasks, which upon completion give additional rewards, as well as Chance Rewards, which is how players will obtain rare promo cards.

There are a few different ways to approach defeating the various Ultra Beast decks featured in this event, and some fantastic rewards for players who manage to take them all down. In this guide we’ll go over the best decks for the Ultra Beast Drop event in Pokémon TCG Pocket, and all of its missions, tasks, and rewards

Pokémon TCG Pocket Ultra Beast event: Best deck

The Ultra Beast decks featured in this event are made up of a few different types, primarily Psychic and Metal. Because of this, they don’t share a common weakness, with Psychic-type cards primarily weak to Darkness, and Metal-type cards primarily weak to Fire. We think exploiting the Fire weakness of Metal-type cards is a safer bet, with some fast and powerful cards that make this event a breeze, so we’ve gone with this Charizard ex deck from our list of the best meta decks in Pokémon TCG Pocket

A Charizard ex and Turtonator deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket
The Pokémon Company
  • Turtonator (2)
  • Charmander (2)
  • Charmeleon
  • Charizard ex (2) - Shining Revelry
  • Kiawe (2)
  • Professor’s Research (2)
  • Lillie (2)
  • Giovanni
  • Potion
  • Poké Ball (2)
  • Rare Candy (2)
  • Pokémon Communication

One of the most powerful decks of the current meta, the Turtonator and Kiawe combo in this deck is a huge boon for early-game play. Kiawe gives you a reason to play first, since it lets you add two energy to Turtonator on turn one, letting you deal 90 damage per turn as soon as turn two, something very few decks are able to pull off. This comes in handy in the Ultra Beast event because of the extremely high energy cost for all of the Necrozma cards, so you can usually knock out a couple of Pokémon before they get set up.

The second half of this deck is Shining Revelry’s Charizard ex line, which deals a massive amount of damage at the cost of a high amount of energy. We don’t have any support for getting this energy onto Charizard ex, but its Stoke attack lets you set up in two turns, which should be more than enough to sweep through the Ultra Beast lineup.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Ultra Beast event: Best low rarity deck

Some of the decks in the Ultra Beast Drop event have tasks requiring you to defeat the opponent’s deck using only cards of ♢, ♢♢, or ♢♢♢ rarity. This is pretty limiting, and means you won’t be able to use any Pokémon ex cards. Several decent Darkness-type decks will get the job done at low rarity, and have the benefit of also clearing the “Knock out Pokémon using attacks from a Darkness-type Pokémon” challenge present in some of these battles.

We’ve got a pretty good Poison-themed Darkness deck below – also good for clearing the Poison challenge at Intermediate difficulty – but be aware that in order to clear the knockout challenge, you’ll need to make sure the finishing move is from an attack, not from a tick of Poison.

A decklist for a Nihilego deck in Pokemon TCG Pocket
The Pokémon Company
  • Nihilego (2)
  • Grimer (2)
  • Muk (2)
  • Koga (2)
  • Cyrus (2)
  • Pokémon Center Lady
  • Potion
  • Professor’s Research (2)
  • Pokémon Communication (2)
  • Poké Ball (2)
  • Poison Barb (2)

Nihilego’s ability makes Poison tick damage do an extra 10 damage each turn — and it stacks, so with two Nihilego on the bench, each turn will see a Poisoned Pokémon take 30 points of damage.

The Grimer line is your main avenue for Poisoning your opponent’s Pokémon, with Grimer guaranteeing a Poison on attack and Muk dealing 120 damage to a Poisoned Pokémon. Koga can bring a Muk back to the hand, too, so if things get too hairy you can make a quick exit.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Ultra Beast Drop Event: All tasks and rewards

Like Drop events before it, the Ultra Beast Drop Event has players taking on a series of increasingly difficult solo challenge battles. Also like the prior events, players will be able to earn a Ultra Beast promo card, alongside a few new promo cards in a new promo pack that should help fill out your decks.

The Ultra Beast Drop Event offers players four solo battles to take on against a CPU, each with a specific deck of increasing difficulty from Beginner through to Expert. In addition to first-time battle rewards and chance rewards, each battle comes with a selection of tasks, such as knocking out cards with Pokémon of specific types, using cards of specific rarities, and winning within a certain amount of turns. Each of these tasks can be completed once.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Ultra Beast Drop Event: All Promo Cards

Players who earn Promo Packs during the Ultra Beast Drop Event will have those cards added to the gifts menu on the home page of the app, where they can be opened one at a time to receive one card out of a pool of five. Each of these cards has an equal chance of appearing when opening a Promo Pack, so the Ultra Necrozma ex is just as likely as the Stakataka — it’s a 20% chance for each.

Here’s the full list of cards in the Ultra Beast Drop Event Promo Pack:

  • Kartana
  • Blacephalon
  • Xurkitree
  • Dawn Wing Necrozma
  • Dusk Mane Necrozma
  • Stakataka
  • Ultra Necrozma ex

Ultra Necrozma ex is the clear draw card here, as a powerful Dragon-type card with no weakness and a big damage output. It’s a little tricky to use, requiring both Psychic and Metal energy to use its signature attack Shoegaze, but if you do it will discard 5 cards from both players’ decks, potentially disrupting your opponent’s late-game plans.

Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrozma are also of note, as they have no main set counterpart and are fairly powerful cards well worth inclusion in their respective type archetypes. All other cards in the Promo Pack are simply alternate artwork counterparts of Extradimensional Crisis cards
