Silent Hill f: Quality vs Performance – The best graphics setting for console

Silent Hill f is the latest (and possibly greatest) game in the revered Silent Hill series, and the first new game in the series since 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour — effectively skipping an entire generation of consoles and then some. On PC, there is a laundry list of settings to fiddle with and tweak to get the desired performance and appearance for your hardware, but consoles, of course, just have a couple of presets.

In this guide we’ve detailed all of the graphics options available for Silent Hill f, including the best graphics mode for PS5 and Xbox Series X and details of the PS5 Pro enhancements available.
Console graphics settings breakdown – Silent Hill f
Console players of Silent Hill f – at least on PS5 and Xbox Series X – will get two graphics presets to choose from: Quality mode and Performance mode. Quality mode aims for a higher resolution, said to be around 1440p, while capping the frame rate at 30fps. Performance mode, on the other hand, drops the resolution to around 1080p, while increasing the frame rate to 60fps.
Both graphics modes look absolutely fantastic, with very little degradation in image quality across environments and action scenes. They both also hit their frame rates most of the time — the Performance mode is almost a locked 60fps, with occasional drops, while the Quality mode rarely, if ever, drops below 30fps. All cutscenes in the game run at 30fps, seemingly with the higher visual fidelity of the Quality mode, and are rendered in-engine so your chosen outfit – if you have additional outfits from DLC and preorders – will be shown in cutscenes.
The PS5 Pro and Xbox Series S both have no presets to choose from, each using a bespoke profile.
The only other graphics settings available on console are for a colorblind mode, which is a blunt filter that applies over the entire screen. You can choose between having the filter off entirely, or having a filter for deuteranopia, protanopia, and tritanopia, and there is an intensity slider for each of these options.
Best PS5 graphics settings – Silent Hill f
For PS5, we’d recommend using Performance mode. While Quality mode is excellent and looks great, the Performance mode doesn’t look much worse at all in comparison, and the increase to 60fps leaves it feeling much less sluggish and much more fluid.
PS5 Pro graphics settings – Silent Hill f
Unfortunately, players on PS5 Pro don’t have access to any additional presets, with bespoke settings all set for the player that split the difference between Quality and Performance. Because of this, there aren’t any settings to change – with the exception of the colorblind filters – although there may be some system settings that you might want to change. There have been some reports of the game stuttering and hitching when the game is played on a display with a 120hz refresh rate, which can be fixed by changing the system settings to output at 60hz.

As with the PS5, we’d recommend using the Performance mode on Xbox Series X, for the same reasons as above.
Xbox Series S graphics settings – Silent Hill f
As with the PS5 Pro, there are no graphics settings for the Xbox Series S to change except for the colorblind filter.
