Before you leave the Island Asylum, Caradoc gives you instructions to find Breandán, the captain of the Keepers. After doing a few tasks to track him down, he’ll say that he’ll tell you how to get your hands on Excalibur if you kill Galahad for him, so he can pull of a coup and take control of the Keepers fully.

You don’t have to though, as when you meet Galahad, you can instead tell him all about Breandán’s plot. We’ll explain the consequences of each choice and which option we think is better.

If you kill Galahad

If you follow through on Breandán’s plot to kill Galahad, you’ll find it’s no easy feat, as Galahad is a very strong foe at this point in the game who has both strong melee and ranged attacks in his arsenal. Still, if you manage to pull it off, you get some powerful weapons and armor off his body, though his squires will immediately turn hostile and come after you.

With Breandán’s coup successful, he will now become one of your main allies throughout the rest of the game.

If you tell Galahad about the plot to kill him

Galahad will instead get you to aid him in his assault on Breandán and the Dal Riata, and he sets off immediately.

Head over to the Dal Riata’s camp, where Breandán is holed up, and you’ll find that the Dal Riata have been slaughtered, permanently removing them from the game – I hope you cleared up any quests you had with them first. You’ll then have to aid Galahad’s squires in a difficult battle against the berserkers protecting the temple, before proceeding inside and discovering that Galahad has killed Breandán.

Galahad will then tell you how to activate Excalibur and declare Faerghas the new captain of the Keepers, a role he will take very seriously.

Should you kill or spare Galahad?

If you’re playing with heavy armor and weaponry, then Galahad’s armor is really good for this point in the game, though it does require a decent amount of strength to use, so killing him may be worth it for that alone. However, Breandán doesn’t seem like the most just or trustworthy man, so throwing your lot in with him could have consequences down the line. That said, Galahad is far from a saint, though he is a powerful ally, and one who has remained loyal to Arthur, so if you plan on siding with the king, it could be a good idea.

After dealing with Galahad, whichever option you choose, you'll have to enter the Sunken City next.
