Tamagotchi Plaza: How to make sushi

Tamagotchi Plaza is out now on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s filled with delightful minigames that have you tending to the wants and needs of many Tamagotchi. The Switch 2 version of the game in particular has a special, secret minigame hidden in a shop behind Shykutchi’s gym.
This shop is run by the ninja Tamagotchi Gozarutchi, and it has you using the Joy-Con 2’s mouse mode to make sushi and serve guests. Unfortunately, the game does an absolutely terrible job of teaching you how to make sushi, so we’ve put together this guide to help you learn how to make the perfect sushi in Tamagotchi Plaza.
Tamagotchi Plaza: How to unlock the sushi shop
The sushi shop is unlocked automatically after having completed every other main minigame at least once. After completing your last minigame, you’ll overhear a conversation mentioning a secret sushi shop. From there, you have to head to the back of Shykutchi’s gym shop, where you’ll see a subtle door in the wall. Interacting this door will let you join Gozarutchi in the sushi shop, after which you’ll jump right into the poorly explained minigame.
Tamagotchi Plaza: How to make sushi
Making sushi in Tamagotchi Plaza is a fairly simple affair, it’s just explained quite poorly. To begin with, you have to make sure you’re keeping on top of your guest’s needs — they will often ask for pickled ginger or tea, both of which are located next to Gozarutchi. Simply pick up the pickled ginger and place it on the plate, or pick up the teapot and hold it over their cup to refill it.
After you have their basic needs met, it’s time to make sushi. You'll need to make the sushi your guest wants in the order they ask for it on the board behind them, from right to left.
Start by picking up some rice and placing it into your other hand. Then, you’ll need to grate some wasabi by picking up the large, carrot-looking object on the bench and rubbing it against the grater.
All sushi in the early stages of the minigame needs to have wasabi on it. Pick up some wasabi from the batch you grated then place it onto the rice. You only need one blob of wasabi.
After that, pick up one of the desired toppings, such as salmon, then place it on top of the sushi and wasabi mound in your hand. You’ll now need to shape it by pressing L/R and ZL/ZR while hovering over the sushi in your hand. You’ll need to press it a few times, until it noticeably changes shape. Don’t overwork the sushi — once it’s changed shape the first time into a vaguely oval shape, it’s done. Continuing to overwork it will result in a perfectly spherical or even a square sushi, and your guests won’t enjoy that.
Note that you can place the toppings on the sushi after molding it, but we’ve found it to be much more consistent to place all the toppings on it first then molding it.
After you’ve molded your sushi, hold one of the face buttons, like the A button, then hold L/R and ZL/ZR while hovering over the sushi in your hand, then drag and drop it onto your guest’s plate. It’s important to be holding a face button first before L/R and ZL/ZR, because doing the latter first could instead mold the sushi again, overworking it.
After you’ve completed your first sushi, start work on the other sushi your guest desires. After you’ve served all sushi on the board above their head, you’ll have completed the minigame, and hopefully gotten a perfect score.
