Umamusume: How to unlock outfits
By Marco Wutz

Umamusume can run, sing, and dance, and do it all in pretty outfits that would make any skilled aerodynamicist rip out their hair. But you’ll surely notice that only some of your Umamusume are wearing unique costumes, while others stick to more regular uniforms provided by the academy.

This is because you have to unlock every Umamusume’s special outfit before she can wear it on the race track — and here’s how to do that.
How to unlock outfits in Umamusume: Pretty Derby
Unlocking outfits is connected to the Umamusume’s star rating. You’ll notice that each girl has a maximum rating of five stars and is starting out with one, two, or three stars being unlocked after you scout her.
Upgrading an Umamusume’s star rating will increase her base stats and the level of her unique skill, which is obviously great for reaching higher objectives during a career run, and reaching three stars will unlock the signature racewear of each girl — so if you’re looking to get access to the special outfits, this is what you’ll need to aim for.
How to increase star rating in Umamusume: Pretty Derby
Raising an Umamusume’s star rating requires a resource called Star Pieces. This isn’t a general resource — every horse girl has her own unique Star Pieces, so collecting those specific ones is crucial for upgrading every Umamusume.
Star Pieces generally have two sources: One is pulling duplicates of an Umamusume when you use the Scout feature, the second is to exchange Goddess Statues for them in the Statue Shop. Goddess Statues themselves are also acquired from Scouting and – more rarely – career runs. Sometimes, Star Pieces are up for grabs as mission rewards as well.
Upgrading the star rating from two to three stars requires 100 Star Pieces, while leveling it from one to three stars requires 150 Star Pieces.
