Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is the latest Soulslike game to capture people’s attention, and it has earned thousands of concurrent Steam players even while being available as a part of Xbox Game Pass. It’s a genuinely fascinating game, and evokes the gameplay of the original Dark Souls games more than any other games in the genre.

It might not be up to the same standard as an original FromSoftware game, but it’s still a really great experience, especially when running at a fluid 60 fps. Wuchang is available on PC, PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, along with Xbox Game Pass, which is a wide variety of platforms. In this guide we’re going to quickly break down whether you should be using the Performance or Quality graphics preset when playing Wuchang: Fallen Feathers on console.

Wuchang on the premium consoles comes equipped with three graphics modes to choose from, labeled as Prioritize FPS, Balanced, and Prioritize Graphics. You can also toggle a “Lock FPS” which can minimize – but not eliminate – framerate hitches and stutters. We recommend that this is left on.

Prioritize FPS looks to aim for 1080p, and you can let the FPS values run as high as possible. Great if you want immediate fluidity over all else.

Balanced mode compromises between the two, delivering a mostly stable experience — though the game itself warns that screen tearing may occur with it.

Prioritize Graphics, meanwhile, does its best to deliver a 4K experience, and this isn’t really a stable option on most consoles.

Best PS5 and PS5 Pro graphics mode – Wuchang

It probably goes without saying, but Wuchang: Fallen Feathers looks best on PS5 Pro, but it’s still a very good experience on base PS5 too.

On base PS5, with the Lock FPS option enabled, you’ll be looking at fluctuating 60 fps, 40 fps, and 30 fps framerates using FPS, Balanced, and Graphics mode, respectively. For the sake of visual fluidity, we can only recommend using Prioritize FPS mode with Lock FPS turned on.

On PS5 Pro meanwhile, all modes deliver above – or close to – 60 fps most of the time. If you’re using a 4K screen with VRR, then Prioritize Graphics with Lock FPS on is a great mode to use. If you don’t have VRR, then the FPS or Balanced modes may offer a more pleasing and stable experience.

Best Xbox Series S and X graphics mode – Wuchang

On Xbox Series X the readout is mostly similar to base PS5. You probably shouldn’t be playing around with the Prioritize Graphics mode, but with a VRR screen the Balanced and Prioritize FPS modes will work great.

The Xbox Series S is given the full suite of three modes, which is nice to see, but it’s difficult to recommend any mode but Prioritize FPS with Lock FPS turned on.
