Nintendo has announced a release date for Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Nintendo Switch 2 as well as the Version 3.0 update for the title — both are due on January 15, 2026.

The new edition will cost $64.99 USD for new adopters, while an upgrade for $4.99 USD can be purchased by those who already own the game for Switch. It will support resolutions up to 4K at 30 frames per second, Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone to call for residents and thereby locate them, and multiplayer sessions for up to a dozen players.

The Version 3.0 update, which will be available for the new and old versions of the game, adds new furniture and clothing as well as a resort hotel to decorate, which will attract new guests to your island. Inventory space is going to see an upgrade, while resets will be made easier.

Everyone with a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be able to play with friends on up to three islands. NSO members can play specific classic Nintendo titles in-game when interacting with special items. The update also brings some LEGO collaboration items and unlocks special interactions for The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon Amiibo.
