Ubisoft has unveiled the gameplay of Anno 117: Pax Romana, showing off what fans can expect from the popular series’ expedition to Antiquity, and revealed that the game will launch in Winter 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Anno 117 has incorporated many learnings from the immensely successful Anno 1800, but gives everything a fresh twist to offer a bit more choice to the player in every aspect. For example, the need for food no longer dictates a specific type of food to be delivered to your population — any food product will do, allowing you to specialize your economy in the way you want instead of the same way every game. This goes for needs like entertainment and public services as well.

There will also be events and small quests to spice up the narrative layer of the game and offer yet more choices to the player.

Anno 117’s maps seem to generally match those in Anno 1800 when it comes to size, but can be made bigger than in the predecessor and feature more drastic elevation changes, which is going to make for more interesting looking cities — and might be relevant to important Roman products like wine. As some production buildings now have positive or negative effects on any residential buildings nearby, their smart placement is all the more important.

Players will get to arrange their cities in completely new ways thanks to 45-degree angling of roads and buildings.

Anno 117 also features an expandable governor’s villa, a religion system, and a research tree. Oh, and of course players can engage in diplomacy and warfare, both on land and at sea.

In terms of authenticity, Anno 117 looks fantastic as well: Details like colored statues show that the developers did their homework and aren’t content with merely delivering another boring pop culture depiction of Rome.
