Ara: History Untold adds unique units in major update 2.0
By Marco Wutz

Oxide Games wanted to do things differently with Ara: History Untold, leaving out staples of the turn-based strategy genre such as unique units for every nation — features fans have evidently been missing. Update 2.0 for the game, targeting a launch on September 24, 2025, will change this and other elements.
Alongside the introduction of unique units, such as longbowmen for England and samurai for Japan, the patch is reworking every leader available in the game to have unique mechanics, traits, and abilities. At the moment, characters use traits from a shared pool of options.
In another major addition, players can expect to find a Culture and Influence system in the title following the update. Culture is a quality of life category in cities and produces Influence, which in turn can be used to acquire cultural traits and claim land. Later in the game, players unlock a unit called Agitators, which can be sent into other nations to sow rebellion and subvert their rule, allowing you to annex territory without having to go to war.
Update 2.0 will also bring overhauls to the goods crafting system, enemy AI, map generation, and user interface. Optimizations are promised to increase performance and loading times.
