Arknights studio fires artist following Monster Hunter plagiarism

Chinese developer Hypergryph, the studio behind successful gacha game Arknights and the upcoming Arknights: Endfield, has fired one of its artists after it’s been revealed that they’ve plagiarized textures from Capcom’s Monster Hunter series to create art appearing in-game.
The artist, who goes by the alias Cenm0, used textures from a creature that first appeared in Monster Hunter 4 to make the artwork for a skin for Arknights character Ascalon. The grand, wing-like cape Ascalon wears as part of this outfit featured a scale-like texture on its inside, which fans immediately recognized as being similar to the wings of Shagaru Magala, one of Monster Hunter 4’s elder dragons.
As it turned out, it wasn’t just coincidence — or a deliberate crossover teaser, as some fans thought: Cenm0 had simply copied Shagaru Magala’s wings and used them as the material lining the inside of Ascalon’s cape.
Hypergryph reacted quickly to the suspected plagiarism, changing the in-game assets (to the image seen in the header) and ultimately firing the responsible artist.
Cenm0 publicly apologized to both Hypergryph and Capcom, fully accepting responsibility.
A similar case recently occurred at Bungie, where an artist copy-pasted someone else’s works directly into Marathon, the studio’s upcoming extraction shooter.
