Bandai Namco announces Elden Ring live-action movie
By Marco Wutz

Movie adaptations of video games are here, there, and everywhere these days and 2022’s hit RPG by FromSoftware is next: Bandai Namco and A24 are making an Elden Ring movie. The live-action film will be written and directed by Alex Garland.
Garland earned his first laurels for the writing of 28 Days Later in 2002 and recently was the writer and director of Civil War.
He’s got some video game experience under his belt as well, having co-authored Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and served as the story supervisor on DmC: Devil May Cry, which were both developed by Ninja Theory. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West delivers a connection between Garland and Bandai Namco, which published the 2010 action adventure.
A24 is known for movies like Everything Everywhere All at Once, Civil War, Talk to Me, and Hereditary, so it certainly has the flair and pedigree to bring to life George R. R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki’s brainchild.
GRRM doesn’t seem to be involved in the movie – or at least hasn’t announced anything yet – so any poor souls still hoping to read The Winds of Winter can rest assured that this won’t be among the excuses Martin fields for not writing the next A Song of Ice and Fire book.
“We’re thrilled to announce that Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and A24 are teaming up with writer and director Alex Garland to bring FromSoftware Inc.’s world-renowned video game Elden Ring to life as a live-action film. We’re truly excited to bring the world of Elden Ring to fans in a new form, outside the game. Stay tuned. The path ahead is only beginning,” Bandai Namco said in its announcement post.
