EA clarifies how crossplay works in Battlefield 6, contradicting previous developer claim

An interview had previously sown some confusion around the topic.

Following a developer’s claims that Battlefield 6 would support console-only crossplay, EA has clarified towards Dexerto that this won’t be the case after all. If you enable crossplay in BF6, it will always match you with players from all platforms, including PC.

However, the system is designed to prioritize matching users on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with other console players before filling up lobbies with those on PC. In practice, this means that as long as there are enough eligible console players looking for matches at the same time as you, there’s a good chance that you’ll play in a console-only lobby.

If you’re playing on PC, there’s no option to disable crossplay in the first place, as it’s simply the default way things work. Disabling crossplay on a console means that you can only play with the community on the same console, preventing you from partying up with friends using a different machine.

Console players would have liked an option that excludes them from playing with users on PC, as cheating is a much more prevalent danger on the platform compared to PS5 and Xbox. The fact that the platform groups usually use different input mechanisms – keyboard and mouse vs. gamepad – is another issue for some players, who feel that this is unfair.
