Borderlands 4 release date pushed forward
By Marco Wutz

Borderlands 4 will release a couple of days earlier than expected, so fans can jump into the new shooter on September 12, 2025, instead of the originally targeted September 23, according to a video message from Gearbox co-founder Randy Pitchford.
Speaking of a “best-case scenario,” he also noted that a State of Play show focused on the title will be coming up very soon. This had already been announced a while ago, though without any date attached to it. Sony confirmed this mini-showcase to take place on April 30, 2025, at 5pm EDT.

A big-budget game being released early is not too common, though it’s not like the eleven days Borderlands 4 is being pulled forward are a major span of time. The most notable recent game getting an earlier-than-planned release was Baldur’s Gate 3, which cut about a month from its original timeline to avoid a direct clash with Bethesda’s Starfield — famously, that one worked out very nicely for Larian Studios, though it’s probably easier to do with an Early Access title.
Borderlands 4 will feature the familiar mix of first-person shooter and action RPG elements that fans know and love. Gearbox wants to deliver an extensive and seamless world to explore with tools like the grappling hook being introduced to assist players with traversal. As is tradition, the game can be played solo or in co-op teams of up to four players.
Borderlands 4 is set to come to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
