The power of anime propels Devil May Cry sales while Monster Hunter Wilds hits a wall
By Marco Wutz

The financial reports of video game companies rarely hold any shocking surprises, but Capcom is certainly delivering something like that with its latest figures. Devil May Cry 5 – released back in 2019 – added 1.782 million sales to its tally between April and June 2025, bringing its total sales to over 10 million.
The DMC HD Collection was sold close to 600,000 times, while DMC 4’s Special Edition wasn’t far off half a million sales in the same timeframe.
The reason? The power of anime, probably. Created by Adi Shankar, a Devil May Cry animated series is available on Netflix since April 2025. It gained a strong approval rating on aggregating sites like Rotten Tomatoes and was renewed for a second season one week after its release.
Capcom stated that the series generated “strong synergies with the Digital Contents Business,” i.e. notably boosted the games’ sales numbers.
Even more shocking, perhaps, are the numbers for Monster Hunter Wilds — in the opposite way. Following its release earlier this year, the game’s sales went down to just around 477,000. Its predecessor, Monster Hunter Rise, still managed 389,000 sold copies at the same time. The lifetime sales for both titles now stand at 10.585 and 17.564 million, respectively.
This is a significant drop in momentum for Wilds, possibly due to the persistent performance issues of the game on PC, which have received a lot of attention and criticism. In all fairness, Wilds already sold more than 10 million copies shortly after launch, which is a great result — sales falling off now might well be an indication of everyone wanting the game already having bought it.
Resident Evil continues to chug along nicely with four series entries ranking among the top ten products in Capcom’s sales ranking.
Street Fighter 6 added over half a million sales in the quarter, helped by its release on Switch 2. The fighting game has now sold more than 5 million units in total.
Here’s the updated sales ranking for Capcom’s video game franchises:
- Resident Evil – 174m
- Monster Hunter – 122m
- Street Fighter – 57m
- Mega Man – 43m
- Devil May Cry – 36m
- Dead Rising – 18m
- Ace Attorney – 13m
- Dragon’s Dogma – 13m
- Marvel vs. Capcom – 12m
- Onimusha – 8.9m
- Okami – 4.7m
