Firaxis has announced some key changes being introduced to Civilization 7 with update 1.2.3, which is going to be released in the coming week for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The update includes a wave of improvements to Age transitions, which have been requested by the community. In the future, a countdown will be visible that starts ten turns ahead of changing Ages in order to give players a precise timeframe for completing any remaining objectives of the current Age.

There will also be a brand-new setting players can turn on — Continuity. Continuity will prevent your units from being moved to random places at the start of the next Age, instead preserving their positions. Naturally, this can change the strategy for the start of the next Age massively, since invasion plans can now be hammered out across Age transitions.

Firaxis also worked on the evolution of leader relationships between Ages, which should be less arbitrary and much more smooth following the update.

Patch 1.2.3 will also bring the long overdue auto-explore feature to Scouts and equivalent units.

Trung Trac will receive a welcome reinforcement in the form of a new unique Commander — her sister, Trung Nhi. She’ll get a custom unit mode, promotion tree artwork, and unique playstyle.

Firaxis teased that there will be many more changes and adjustments in the update, but we’ll have to wait for the full patch notes next week.
