CK3’s next update will allow you to force lazy family members to take exams
By Marco Wutz

Playing in Meritocratic Realms like China or Korea in CK3: All Under Heaven means that you’re always hungry for Merit and need to raise your Merit Rank in order to climb the political ladder. A single family member rising high in the government can propel an entire dynasty’s fortunes, but in CK3 that’s always temporary — characters always die at some point. Ideally, your family and successors are using your time in the limelight to study up and position themselves for their own illustrious careers, but it turns out that they’d rather mooch off of their famous relative and waste their lives lazing around.
But that’s coming to an end: Paradox announced that upcoming CK3 update 1.18.0.2 will add a new decision for house heads, enabling them to command relatives to take part in exams. This will prompt them to travel to Local or Palace Examinations (depending on their Merit Rank) and try their luck without you having to take them there yourself.
Sure, being present as an examiner when your family members take the test has advantages, such as being able to manipulate things in their favor, but you can’t always leave your post for babysitting duties, so this will be a welcome change.
The patch will also bring some general improvements to the Celestial Government type to help the Huangdi with army maintenance and give him more choice in terms of accepting Tributaries.
Another patch is already in the works that will come with additional visual assets for South East Asia, improved localization, and other fixes.
