Dreamhaven, the developer and publisher co-founded and headed by Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime, has laid off an unconfirmed number of staff members. According to Morhaime’s post on LinkedIn, the reductions are primarily focused on the company’s publishing department.

The announcement follows a recent report by Bloomberg, which detailed Dreamhaven’s struggles with selling its games.

Citing an internal memo, Bloomberg reported that multiplayer shooter Wildgate had sold only 130,000 copies across all platforms following its launch, while Dreamhaven’s own co-op title Sunderfolk sold just around 60,000 units.

In the memo, Morhaime told staff that the company’s “monthly expenses are outpacing revenue” and that “urgently reducing costs” was essential to its survival.

“We made the hard decision to reduce the size of our company, with the primary impact on our Publishing group,” Morhaime wrote in his statement on the layoffs. “These choices are never easy — they affect talented colleagues who have played a key role in building Dreamhaven’s foundation and supporting what has been an eventful year for us.”

He continued: “From organizing the Dreamhaven Showcase to helping launch three games, every person at Dreamhaven has contributed to sharing our games with the world. I’m deeply grateful for the creativity, dedication, and hard work of the teammates we are parting ways with. They will be truly missed. [...] To everyone who continues to support us — thank you. While today’s news is hard, I remain optimistic about Dreamhaven’s future and the experiences still to come.”
