Stardock reveals Elemental: Reforged for PC
By Marco Wutz

Stardock Entertainment has announced Elemental: Reforged, a 4X strategy game for PC. The title is based on 2010’s Elemental: War of Magic and incorporates elements from other series entries, such as Fallen Enchantress and Sorcerer King, essentially making it a remaster with major enhancements.
Elemental: War of Magic was an ambitious strategy title with a variety of strong systems, but struggled at launch due to major technical problems and failed to create coherence between each of its mechanics — which Stardock itself admits today.
Elemental: Reforged is going to run on a modernized engine Stardock believes is capable of finally unleashing the title’s true potential. Brad Wardell, the original title’s designer and today CEO of Stardock, said Reforged will “deliver the original design we wanted.”
“As we developed Elemental, we realized that the design wouldn’t fit in a 32-bit game and pared it down into Elemental: War of Magic, which still had challenges fitting in 32-bit memory space. So then we made Elemental: Fallen Enchantress, which did much better but was still a shadow of what we had designed. Then we made Elemental: Sorcerer King where we focused on the crafting and quest elements of the original design. Now, thanks to remastering the engine to 64-bit, we can actually make the full game we originally envisioned in 2008,” he explained.
The Elemental series is renowned for giving the player a lot of freedom on how to play, being essentially a strategy sandbox. Using a RPG-style designer, you can create heroes and units from scratch and embark on story-driven missions that influence diplomacy and politics of the world. Reforged will also feature an enhanced version of the original’s modding tools and will support Steam Workshop.
