Epic Games reveals Fortnite Switch 2 version details and confirms mouse controls
By Marco Wutz

Epic Games has unveiled the details around the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Fortnite, which is available as part of the console’s launch line-up. It furthermore confirmed that Fortnite will allow players to use their Joy-Con 2’s for mouse controls starting with an update on June 7, 2025.
Logging into Fortnite on a Switch 2 will also net players a free emote — as long as they do so before March 31, 2026.
Fortnite supports the following features on Switch 2:
- 60 FPS
- Higher resolution (2176x1224 docked, 1600x900 undocked)
- Greater view distances
- Higher-quality textures, shadows, and water rendering
- Clothing physics
- Replay system
- Video clip capture via the Capture button
- GameChat support
- Mouse controls via Joy-Con 2
Epic also confirmed high-detail geometry, distance field ambient occlusion in docked mode, shadow casting point lights, and high-quality effects for the enhanced version. Summarizing it, Fortnite will look and run much better on the Switch 2 than on the Switch — not a shocker.
All of the above features are available immediately, bar one: mouse controls. Support for this exciting Switch 2 feature will arrive on June 7, 2025, with Update 36.00 for the game. This will enable players to use one or both of their Joy-Con 2 controllers as a mouse to aim or navigate the UI. ZR (or ZL, for those using their left controller) will become the primary mouse button if players choose to make use of this aspect.
You can enable mouse controls for Fortnite on Switch 2 by going into the Settings, navigating to the Mouse tab, and then selecting which controller(s) you want to use as a mouse in the Mouse Controls tab.
Recently, Epic Games announced that Fortnite creators will get access to the necessary tools to create their own customized AI-powered NPCs for the game.
