Epic Games provides another monetization tool to creators.

Epic Games will allow Fortnite creators to develop and sell in-game items starting in December 2025, the company announced. From December 2025 to December 2026, creators will receive a cut of around 74% from their in-game sales — though the exact number will differ depending on the platform due to platform-specific fees.

From January 2026, this cut will go down to roughly 37%, with Epic Games pocketing the 50% difference to “contribute to server hosting costs, safety, and moderation costs, R&D and other operation expenses.”

“In recent years, Epic has been investing and operating the business at a loss,” the company reasoned.

On average, Epic Games claimed in a graphic attached to the announcement, Fortnite creators will therefore earn a higher payout from in-game sales than Roblox creators, highlighting what’s probably one of the biggest rivalries in the gaming industry at the moment. Fortnite and Roblox both want to attract talented developers to their platforms — and the competition will only grow fiercer with HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact joining the UGC arena later this year.

Along with enabling the creation and sale of in-game items, Epic Games will adjust its formulae governing the payout for engagement. Creators who manage to bring in new or bring back old players, converting them into consistent spenders, will earn extra.

Creators themselves will be able to buy visibility from Epic Games with the introduction of a new “Sponsored” category in November 2025, for which the company will auction slots.

Earlier this year, Epic Games presented an AI-powered update to UEFN and announced that official assets from various IPs would become available to creators.
