The long-awaited return of Fortnite to iOS in the United States has been delayed to May 16, 2025, Epic Games announced. Epic submitted the game for evaluation last week, but hasn’t heard a peep from Apple since then, according to company founder and CEO Tim Sweeney.

“No news from Apple yet. They’ve had it since last Friday,” he wrote on social media. He said that Epic tried to contact Apple again earlier this week, but was ignored.

Apple tried similar delaying tactics during Fortnite’s return to iOS in Europe and only relented following a reaction by the European Union, which forced Apple to open its ecosystem with its Digital Markets Act.

Following a long legal battle, a U.S. court also ruled that Apple is no longer allowed to charge a commission on purchases made outside of the App Store and cannot restrict developers from leading users to other storefronts — practices commonly known as the Apple Tax. Sweeney announced Fortnite's return to iOS following the ruling.

Apple has already filed an appeal to the ruling, but for the moment there should be no obstacle to prevent Epic Games from offering Fortnite on the App Store.
