Game Freak’s next game is called Beast of Reincarnation, and it’s definitely not Pokémon

Pokémon developer Game Freak has finally lifted the lid off its next project at the Xbox Games Showcase, and it’s a fascinating new game unlike anything the studio has produced in the past.
It’s called Beast of Reincarnation, and it’s a third-person action adventure game set in post-apocalyptic Japan. Players will take on the role of Emma the Sealer, who along with her canine companion Koo will travel the country to eliminate corruption and save humanity from extinction.
Beast of Reincarnation is being directed by Kota Furushima, who has previously worked on Pokémon games at Game Freak since Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Furushima worked on those games as a battle planner, before moving into sound management in 2022 with the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
It’s being published by Fictions, a new publisher that seems to be built on the bones of former Take-Two subsidiary Private Division but was spun off into its own company in 2024. The company is also publishing Lego Party, announced on Friday during the Summer Game Fest presentation.
“It’s incredible to be working with Game Director Furushima-san and the renowned development team at Game Freak. We greatly value their continued collaboration and trust,” Fictions executive producer Mika Kurasawa said in a press release. “We are so excited to show players a glimpse into the stunning world and intense combat of Beast of Reincarnation.”
Beast of Reincarnation was first announced under the working title Project Bloom, and was initially said to be published by Private Division. Little was known about the game at the time, with only a single piece of concept art released when it was announced, but now we’ve seen it in full and it’s looking fantastic, with a beautiful art style and fast-paced combat that looks very satisfying and crunchy.
Beast of Reincarnation is set to be released on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC in 2026, with the game being available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
