A remastered version of the classic action title is coming this summer.

Microsoft announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a remastered version of the series’ debut title, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be released on August 26, 2025, and will join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as well as PC Game Pass on Day 1. Any Xbox players having owned the digital version of the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition ahead of May 5, 2025, will also receive a free upgrade to Reloaded.

Gears of War: Reloaded will support cross-play and cross-progression between all platforms, 120 FPS, and 4K resolutions. The Coalition worked with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief to get the “most complete version of the original game to date” into players’ hands. What this means practically is that Reloaded will contain all the additional content from the Ultimate Edition — the bonus campaign, multiplayer maps and modes, and the customization and progression system.

Players can dive into the team action via split-screen mode or online. Reloaded’s campaign will support co-op gameplay for two players, while multiplayer matches can feature up to eight.

Microsoft emphasized that no Microsoft account would be required to access multiplayer, though signing in is needed to activate the full suite of cross-progression features in case someone wants to play on several devices. It’s also needed to send invites to people on other platforms.
