Update 5.6 for Genshin Impact is out now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, and Android and Travelers from the United States will have noticed some prominent changes in the store as well as the banner menu: Genshin Impact now shows you the real prices of items.

When purchasing Genesis Crystals, the extra information shows the amount of pulls each pack is worth and spells out the USD cost of a single pull for all the offers. On the banner screen, the game shows you the range of real money it can take to obtain the featured 5-Star character – between $1.98 and $475.2 USD – or weapon — between $1.98 and $422.4 USD.

Players can also purchase Intertwined Fate – the in-game name for gacha pulls – directly with real money instead of purchasing Genesis Crystals to convert.

HoYoverse will also require every player in the United States to verify their age by July 18, 2025. It plans on rolling out the age verification process to everyone by May 20, 2025. Players need to participate in the age verification process, as accounts without verified ages will be suspended after the deadline — and permanently deleted a couple days later.

All of these changes result from HoYoverse’s recent bout with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the settlement the legal process ended with. As part of the settlement, HoYoverse committed to increase its pricing transparency and protections for young players. Similar measures will be taken in other HoYoverse games as well, the company stated.

“Animation-style games and shows are well-received by global audiences and players across various ages,” HoYoverse commented in a statement on the ruling in January 2025. “Genshin Impact is a popular free-to-play, anime-style game designed for older teens and adults. While we believe many of the FTC's allegations are inaccurate, we agreed to this settlement because we value the trust of our community and share a commitment to transparency for our players. Under the agreement, we will introduce new age-gate and parental consent protections for children and young teens and increase our in-game disclosures around virtual currency and rewards for players in the U.S. in the coming months.”

Players outside of the United States will not have to take any action for the moment in regards to the age verification. The display changes seem to have made their way into other regions at least in part, but it appears that they’re currently not visible to all players there. Reports from users in Europe and Asia vary, some seeing similar displays of real prices in their currencies, others getting no changes.

In a statement provided to DBLTAP, HoYoverse confirmed that “age gate, parent controls, and other transparency enhancements will primarily be launched for players residing in the U.S.” and that any players being shown this additional information outside of the U.S. can contact the company about it.

The company also posted an update on its website, which states: “By May 20, we will roll out the new Age Gate and certain functions of the Parental Control system in Genshin Impact and HoYoLAB, the community forum for HoYoverse games, for all players residing in the U.S. We strongly recommend that all affected players verify their age as soon as possible to avoid the risk of account suspension and deletion of all HoYoverse data.”

“U.S. players verified as younger players will need consent from a parent or guardian to continue accessing Genshin Impact or HoYoLAB,” the statement continues. “Once consent is provided, parents and guardians can manage younger players' access to Genshin Impact, its in-game community, and HoYoLAB through the new Parental Control Portal. Parental controls for payment access in Genshin Impact will be available in July.”
