The Legend of Zelda’s live-action debut has been delayed little over two months after the release date was initially revealed. The release date is now May 7, 2027.
Nintendo’s official Twitter account confirmed the news with the following statement from series creator Shigeru Miyamoto:
“This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”

The message is slightly cryptic, given that we’ve only known of the release date for around two months, and that the release of the movie is still set to be two years away. Could this be down to an early casting issue or scheduling conflict? There’s absolutely no way to know right now, we can only speculate.
The film was first announced in November 2023, and the release date was announced in March 2024. The initial release date was slated as March 26, 2027. Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment are co-financing the project, with the latter handling worldwide distribution.
Miyamoto-san is a producer on the project, alongside Avi Arad, who is best known for working on the Spider-Man movie franchise and 2022's "Uncharted" starring Tom Holland.
The Legend of Zelda’s live-action debut follows several other Nintendo-related successes on the big screen, including 2019’s Detective Pikachu and 2023’s massively successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
