Springloaded’s upcoming game development simulator Let’s Build a Dungeon will contain a campaign section that parodies the industry drama surrounding Palworld’s release in 2024.

In its latest update, the studio revealed one of the completely playable in-game experiences that’ll be featured in Let’s Build a Dungeon’s single-player campaign — Buddyland. Buddyland, naturally, is a crafting-focused, monster-catching survival game with guns and the decision to develop it in the game might have consequences that players are familiar with from real life.

“The proposed development of Buddyland is just one example of Let’s Build a Dungeon’s branching narrative and features a fully-playable experience, heated discussions with external partners and an ongoing risk of falling into legal hot water,” Springloaded stated.

The Singaporean studio’s CEO, James Barnard, said: “Running an indie studio and making games can be really crazy. We’re all too familiar with headlines about legal challenges being faced by game developers across the world, with disagreements dragging through the courts and communities choosing sides online.”

“The accompanying online discussions often raise the question of what it means to make a successful game, and that’s something we want to explore in Let’s Build a Dungeon,” he added. “There is no definitive answer, but it’s something that indie developers have to think about all the time. Every decision we make in game development has a consequence, and we want to share these experiences with our players. Buddyland is one of the ways we’re giving players the opportunity to make their own moral decisions in the shoes of a games industry CEO, with the chance to see exactly how things play out.”

Springloaded also revealed the Just Build Mode, which can be played solo or with up to three friends. It does away with the studio management aspects of Let’s Build a Dungeon, allowing players to freely create their perfect MMORPG and grow its player base. Players will need to make decisions about the future direction of the game as a team, voting on a randomized selection of measures and plans.

Let’s Build a Dungeon is set to come to PC and Xbox Series X|S, but has no release date yet.
