There is movement around the game announced in 2017.

Metroid Prime 4 has been in the works for a while. Originally announced at E3 in 2017, the title has proved very evasive over the years when it comes to news and progress reports. Now, the light at the end of the tunnel might be near: South Korea’s ratings board has classified Metroid Prime 4, indicating that its launch shouldn’t be very far off.

The game received a 12+ age rating due to mild violence, which is the least one would expect from a sci-fi shooter. The first-person game’s description on the site appears to confirm what a special ending of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption teased — we’ll get a showdown between Samus and the bounty hunter Sylux. The special ending of Metroid Prime: Federation Force appears to tie into Metroid Prime 4’s beginning as well, since Samus and Sylux are described to encounter each other at a Galactic Federation research station.

The development of the game was rebooted in 2019 after its progress was deemed not up to Nintendo’s standards.

The latest trailer for the game was released in March 2025 and it’s targeting an undefined 2025 launch window. In addition to a Nintendo Switch version, the game will come to Switch 2 with a higher resolution, better FPS, and the option to use mouse controls via Joy-Con 2.
