TaleWorlds Entertainment has revealed some of the content players can expect to find in War Sails, the upcoming DLC for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord. Alongside the introduction of ships and naval combat, War Sails will have a substantial expansion of the world map in store.

The war-torn continent of Calradia will grow in the North, West, and East. In the North, Nordvyg takes a position somewhat similar to Scandinavia in Europe, offering cold mountains, a rugged shoreline, and wooded valley. West of Nordvyg is a smaller island called Beinland, while East lies the Jumne river. The Jumne flows in a southwestern direction towards Khuzait and Empire lands and emptying into the Laconis and Tanaesis lakes. These watery veins are perfect routes for enterprising Nords, whether they want to trade or pillage.

Some of the existing rivers on the map will be widened as well, opening up even more watery roads throughout the continent. This, in turn, has led to the relocation of a couple of cities, as they’ll want access to the naval trade these waterways bring.

Naturally, this changes the nature of sieges in the game. With water now being a viable way to access and supply cities, naval blockades become necessary to conduct a successful siege — and breaking them can doom a campaign.

Ships can be bought, sold, and modified with extra parts at locations with suitable harbors. You can land pretty much anywhere aside from some of the rougher coastlines and then either get back to your bridgehead or summon your fleet to a town with a harbor, if your land adventures have led you too far away from the landing grounds.

Movement on the water will be influenced by wind and currents in addition to the ship types and their equipment, so there’s a lot to keep in mind when chasing – or being chased – over water. Storms, of course, can completely ruin your day out on the blue seas, sinking your fleet and forcing you to make an undignified landing on rafts, losing men and material.

War Sails is expected to reach port in Fall 2025.
